Neuropsychological testing is used to better understand cognitive strengths and weaknesses. It can help with concerns related to memory, attention, language, concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, chronic illness, and other neurological or medical conditions. Results can also help guide treatment recommendations and medical care.
-
You may benefit from a neuropsychological assessment if you are noticing changes in memory, attention, word-finding, problem-solving, daily functioning, or your ability to complete normal tasks. It may also be helpful if you or your medical provider want a clearer picture of your cognitive functioning after an illness, injury, or neurological diagnosis.
-
ADHD testing focuses on attention, impulse control, executive functioning, symptom history, and whether someone meets criteria for ADHD. Neuropsychological testing is broader and may evaluate multiple areas of cognition, including memory, language, attention, processing speed, and problem-solving. Some people need a focused ADHD evaluation, while others need a more comprehensive neuropsychological assessment.
